A few months ago I was getting excited about the idea of making a difference in the lives of young people. Thinking about the messages that I’d like to share with them, I couldn’t stop thinking about this one message I kept hearing – “follow your passion, start with why, live by your highest values.”
So many people I admire, who are super successful in what they do are spreading this message in one form or another. So I thought this must be an important thing to share!
But lately I’ve realised following your passion is not all it’s cracked up to be…
In fact this message can be crippling for some. When I hear the cries of clients and friends again and again it makes me rethink this popular advice.
Out of frustration they tell me “I don’t know my passion, I need to find my passion!”
It is for me. I’ve felt it and hear it time and time again. Maybe you’re scared of starting something new or going after a life you want because you’re not crystal clear on what you want to dedicate the rest of your life to. Well, I’ve got news for you – you don’t have to! Phew!
For starters, clarity doesn’t come from thinking, it comes from acting, implementing and trying things out.
So where do we begin?
If I think back to when I considered writing this blog. I certainly wouldn’t say I was passionate or inspired by the idea, but I was curious about it (and a little bit scared!). At first it was daunting, then I kinda liked it, and now I kinda love it! Later I realised writing is something that I used to do when I was little, but lost along the way. This memory brought joy and tears of inspiration to my eyes and I suddenly knew this is something I’ve got to pursue!
If you’re feeling lost and you don’t have that passion or purpose right now – it’s okay! Take the pressure off. You don’t need some grandiose inspired vision in order to start.
Explore, have fun and remember to follow your curiosity!
If you’re not yet convinced that passion is not so important right now, please watch this. It’ll inspire you to step into the wonderful low-pressure world of curiosity.
Now I’d love to hear from you!
