“What if I’m not smart enough to do this?”
“I’m not sure I have what it takes to succeed, if I try and fail I might disappoint the people I care about most!”
“What if I try my hardest, but fail anyway, I’ll have no one to blame but myself…then what?”
If you’re human and want to grow, try something new or accomplish something you’ve never done before – chances are you’ve struggled with one, all or more of these kinds of thoughts too.
Fear and self-doubt tend to go hand in hand with expansion (i.e., progress or growth).
In other words… fear = progress
Any time you begin to move outside your comfort zone, you’re going to feel discomfort, but know it means you’re progressing. And no matter how accomplished you are or what level you end up playing at in the game of life, you will experience fear! As one of my favourite leaders Nelson Mandela said…
“Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
If you’re struggling to find the courage to turn progress into success, today’s blog is for you!
You’ll get some awesome insights on how to gain courage and conquer your fears with my 3-Step “f your f’s” method! 😉
Falsify your Fears
1. Explore the Extremes
This comes back to the obvious aspect of awareness! Ask yourself, what are you afraid of and…
What’s the worst that could happen?
It’s also important to be aware of how you’re experiencing this ‘negative’ outcome right now in the present. For example, if you are afraid that you’ll look like a fool and people will laugh at you. Ask yourself…
Where is this already true and who specifically perceives this to be true?
Now the more exciting question is…
What’s the best that could happen?
What is your best conceivable possible outcome if you take action now? Take a moment to really experience these benefits. This will allow you to be drawn to the outcome like a magnet!
2. Build the Benefits and Balance the Best
Building the benefits is the best part! The realisation that even the worse possible outcome will benefit you is one of the most profound and liberating experiences.
If the worst did happen, what would be the benefits to you, you’re mission and the people that are most important to you?
Write 15-30 benefits of the worst possible outcome.
Write 15-30 disadvantages of experiencing the ‘best’ possible outcome.
Now this list might seem a little counter intuitive, but it helps dissolve any illusions you may have about what you want. Often the reason why we fear something is because our subconscious knows it’s too good to be true and is protecting you from the let down. Once you see both sides, you’ll be prepared for both the great and the not so great aspects of what you want!
Write 15-30 reasons why you deserve the best possible outcome.
This may seem like an intimidating list, but it is the quickest method of rewiring your brain. Take the time to build the list in one sitting, as your neural pathways need to be well myelinated and connected in order to remain, otherwise they’ll just be pruned back and you won’t get the desired effect.
You can do it! You have everything you need within you.
3. Take Action
If you built the benefits right, you’ll feel lighter, brighter and you’ll be itching to take action! Well done 🙂 If you completed the above action steps you are one of the few in this world who will get rapid results, so congratulations!
Now all you need to do is get clear on your first action step.
What is the simplest and most effective action you can take right now that will move you towards your goal?
So tell me what fears are you experiencing? Perhaps you have an alternative method for overcoming your fears? If so I’d love to know what practises or tools help you to move forward. In the comments below share what your action step is and when you’ve completed it reply “done!”
